Technical description

Microsoft is investigating reports of a remote code execution vulnerability in MSHTML that affects Microsoft Windows. Microsoft is aware of targeted attacks that attempt to exploit this vulnerability by using specially-crafted Microsoft Office documents. An attacker could craft a malicious ActiveX control to be used by a Microsoft Office document that hosts the browser rendering engine. The attacker would then have to convince the user to open the malicious document. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights. Microsoft Defender Antivirus and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint both provide detection and protections for the known vulnerability. Customers should keep antimalware products up to date. Customers who utilize automatic updates do not need to take additional action. Enterprise customers who manage updates should select the detection build 1.349.22.0 or newer and deploy it across their environments. Microsoft Defender for Endpoint alerts will be displayed as: “Suspicious Cpl File Execution”. Upon completion of this investigation, Microsoft will take the appropriate action to help protect our customers. This may include providing a security update through our monthly release process or providing an out-of-cycle security update, depending on customer needs. Please see the Mitigations and Workaround sections for important information about steps you can take to protect your system from this vulnerability. UPDATE September 14, 2021: Microsoft has released security updates to address this vulnerability. Please see the Security Updates table for the applicable update for your system. We recommend that you install these updates immediately. Please see the FAQ for important information about which updates are applicable to your system.

———NetLicensing MCP Server is a natural-language interface that enables agentic applications to manage the software-licensing lifecycle in Labs64 NetLicensing. Prior to 0.1.8, netlicensing_get_product passes the caller-controlled product_number to src/netlicensing_mcp/tools/products.py, which interpolates it into a REST path consumed by nl_get() in src/netlicensing_mcp/client.py without path-segment validation. A traversal segment can be normalized from the intended product path to the /token endpoint, after which the response is serialized through _wrap_json instead of _wrap_json_token_read, bypassing redact_token_read() protections for APIKEY number and SHOP shopURL fields. An authenticated MCP client with a non-administrative API key can retrieve plaintext token values, and a recovered administrative token can provide broad read, write, and delete access to the NetLicensing account. This issue is fixed in version 0.1.8.1h

—
———kedro-datasets from 9.3.0 through 9.6.0 contains a path traversal vulnerability in MatplotlibDataset.save() that allows attackers to write files outside the dataset directory by supplying absolute plot names. Because validate_sub_path() strips leading slashes while pathlib's join discards the base path, attackers can create or overwrite files anywhere the process can write.1h
CVE-2026-617025.3 MED
—
———OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems. Prior to 2.4.20, copy_banner() in scheduler/ipp.c uses the attacker-controlled IPP attributes-natural-language value as a directory component beneath DataDir/banners when processing a job-sheets banner. The job-sheets value must first match a registered banner basename, and the traversed path must contain a matching reachable basename; selecting an arbitrary target as demonstrated additionally requires pre-positioned path state such as a symlink with that basename. Subject to the scheduler's filesystem and sandbox access, path separators in the language value can escape the intended banner directory, make the root scheduler open the reachable file, and copy its bytes into a job-sheet spool object that a configured backend can deliver to an attacker-observable endpoint. This issue is fixed in version 2.4.20.2h
CVE-2026-856348.8 HIG
—
———A flaw was found in the ContentRepositoryImpl.copyExplodedContent function of the wildfly-core library, which is used by WildFly and JBoss EAP to manage server deployments. The issue occurs when the library processes an unsanitized deployment name. Due to a missing containment check, an attacker with the Deployer RBAC role can use path traversal sequences to access files outside the restricted deployment directory. This can allow the attacker to delete arbitrary directories or create files with arbitrary content, leading to a full privilege escalation to the management SuperUser role.2h

———Directory Traversal vulnerability in Grav CMS 2.0.3 through 2.0.6 allows a remote attacker to obtain sensitive information via the GravExtension.php and the mediaDirFunc method.1h
CVE-2026-62679—
—
———Lychee is a free, open-source photo-management tool. Prior to 7.6.4, SecurePathController, which serves GET /image/{path}, concatenates the attacker-controlled path with the local storage root and performs a string-prefix check before canonicalizing dot segments. Under the supported non-default configuration with temporary_image_link_enabled enabled, temporary_image_link_when_logged_in disabled, and secure_image_link_enabled disabled, any authenticated user can submit encoded traversal segments that pass the prefix check and are later resolved by filesystem operations. This permits reading files available to the web process, including application configuration and other users' private images, and disclosed APP_KEY or database credentials can enable further compromise. This issue is fixed in version 7.6.4.3h
