Technical description

Several Kafka deserialization paths read a size or count field from input data and use it directly to allocate an array, collection, or byte buffer, with no check against the bytes actually available. A small crafted input can therefore declare a very large size and force a multi-gigabyte allocation. The affected paths are, in Kafka Streams, ProcessorRecordContext (header count), ChangedDeserializer (varint value length), CombinedKeySchema (foreign-key length, which could also produce a negative size), ProcessorMetadata (key length), and AssignmentInfo group-assignment decoding; and, in the clients library, ListDeserializer (used by ListSerde). Impact: An attacker can trigger the oversized allocation and raise an OutOfMemoryError that crashes the affected consumer or Kafka Streams thread; the broker and the rest of the cluster are unaffected. The reachable surface depends on the path: writing a crafted record to a Streams application's internal changelog or repartition topics, or committing crafted offset metadata to its consumer group (Streams internal paths); writing a crafted record to any topic that a consumer reads with ListSerde (ListDeserializer); or, as a member of a Streams consumer group, returning crafted assignment data when elected leader (AssignmentInfo). Because a crafted record remains in its topic, the error can recur on restart. The record size limit (max.message.bytes) does not help, because the allocation is driven by a size field rather than by the input's length. Mitigation: Upgrade to Apache Kafka 4.2.2, 4.3.2, or 4.4.0. Where authorization is enabled, restrict write access to each application's internal topics and consumer group to its own principal, and restrict who can produce to topics that are consumed with ListSerde. Resolution: From Apache Kafka 4.2.2, 4.3.2, and 4.4.0: these deserialization paths validate the declared size against the remaining input before allocating and reject input that fails the check.

———OpenCATS is an open-source applicant tracking system and recruitment CRM for staffing agencies and hiring teams. Prior to version 0.10.0, activity DataGrid date filtering in `home:CallsDataGrid` and `activity:ActivityDataGrid` uses request-controlled `period`, `startDate` and `endDate` parameters without sufficient validation or escaping. The vulnerable code is in `modules/home/dataGrids.php` and `modules/activity/dataGrids.php`. The `startDate` and `endDate` values are inserted into SQL string comparisons without safe escaping, and `period` can directly influence generated SQL. An authenticated user with access to the affected DataGrid endpoints can alter the intended query to access sensitive database contents, including user account data, candidate records, contact details, company information, job orders and activity history. A valid OpenCATS login is required; unauthenticated exploitation is not established. This issue is fixed in version 0.10.0.3h

———A vulnerability was found in a2ui up to 0.10.4. This vulnerability affects unknown code of the file src/v0_9/basic_catalog/components/Image.js of the component Image Player/Video Player/Audio Player. Performing a manipulation of the argument url results in improper input validation. The attack may be initiated remotely. The pull request to fix this issue awaits acceptance.3h

———decode-uri-component provides a more robust alternative to decodeURIComponent. Prior to 0.5.1, decodeUriComponent in index.js falls back to customDecodeURIComponent after native decoding throws, and the fallback collects every distinct percent-encoded run before performing a full-string regular-expression replacement for each entry. Malformed input containing many distinct runs can therefore make both the number of replacements and the scanned input length grow together, causing quadratic CPU consumption and blocking the Node.js event loop; request-body inputs can reach the demonstrated size, while ordinary URL header limits reduce the practical delay. This issue is fixed in version 0.5.1.4h

———Echo is a Go web framework. From 4.0.0 until 4.16.1, Echo v4's opt-in Decompress middleware exposes a gzip-decoded request stream without limiting its expanded size. A small compressed request can expand into a very large body when a handler reads or binds it, consuming excessive memory or CPU and allowing repeated or concurrent requests to cause denial of service. The middleware is not enabled by default, and limiting only the compressed request size does not bound the decoded size. This issue is fixed in 4.16.1.6h

———Echo is a Go web framework. From 4.0.0 until 4.16.1, Echo v4's opt-in BodyDump middleware reads complete request bodies into memory before handlers run and retains complete response bodies for the dump callback without capture limits. An unauthenticated client that can reach a route using BodyDump can submit large bodies or influence large responses, causing repeated or concurrent allocations that exhaust process memory. BodyDump is not enabled by default, and external request limits may reduce request-side exposure but do not bound response capture. This issue is fixed in 4.16.1.6h

———PostgreSQL Anonymizer's `anon.image_blur()` function doesn't check the declared dimension of the provided image, allowing an attacker to provide a small image with enormous declared dimensions. This vulnerability can be exploited to exhaust the memory of a backend and OOM-kill it (when ovecommit is on), which results in a cluster-wide crash recovery. The problem is resolved in PostgreSQL Anonymizer 3.3.0 and later versions.7h
