Technical description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ocfs2: fix listxattr handling when the buffer is full [BUG] If an OCFS2 inode has both inline and block-based xattrs, listxattr() can return a size larger than the caller's buffer when the inline names consume that buffer exactly. kernel BUG at mm/usercopy.c:102! Oops: invalid opcode: 0000 [#1] SMP KASAN NOPTI RIP: 0010:usercopy_abort+0xb7/0xd0 mm/usercopy.c:102 Call Trace: __check_heap_object+0xe3/0x120 mm/slub.c:8243 check_heap_object mm/usercopy.c:196 [inline] __check_object_size mm/usercopy.c:250 [inline] __check_object_size+0x5c5/0x780 mm/usercopy.c:215 check_object_size include/linux/ucopysize.h:22 [inline] check_copy_size include/linux/ucopysize.h:59 [inline] copy_to_user include/linux/uaccess.h:219 [inline] listxattr+0xb0/0x170 fs/xattr.c:926 filename_listxattr fs/xattr.c:958 [inline] path_listxattrat+0x137/0x320 fs/xattr.c:988 __do_sys_listxattr fs/xattr.c:1001 [inline] __se_sys_listxattr fs/xattr.c:998 [inline] __x64_sys_listxattr+0x7f/0xd0 fs/xattr.c:998 ... [CAUSE] Commit 936b8834366e ("ocfs2: Refactor xattr list and remove ocfs2_xattr_handler().") replaced the old per-handler list accounting with ocfs2_xattr_list_entry(), but it kept using size == 0 to detect probe mode. That assumption stops being true once ocfs2_listxattr() finishes the inline-xattr pass. If the inline names fill the caller buffer exactly, the block-xattr pass runs with a non-NULL buffer and a remaining size of zero. ocfs2_xattr_list_entry() then skips the bounds check, keeps counting block names, and returns a positive size larger than the supplied buffer. [FIX] Detect probe mode by testing whether the destination buffer pointer is NULL instead of whether the remaining size is zero. That restores the pre-refactor behavior and matches the OCFS2 getxattr helpers. Once the remaining buffer reaches zero while more names are left, the block-xattr pass now returns -ERANGE instead of reporting a size larger than the allocated list buffer.

——4The Bluetooth HCI USB transport class of the new USB device stack, subsys/usb/device_next/class/bt_hci.c, copies every controller-to-host HCI packet into a USB transfer buffer before enqueuing it on an endpoint. bt_hci_tx_sync_in() allocated that buffer from bt_hci_ep_pool, a fixed pool whose slots are only USBD_MAX_BULK_MPS bytes (64 on full-speed-only builds), and then performed net_buf_add_mem(buf, bt_buf->data, bt_buf->len) with no length check. HCI event and ACL buffers are sized by CONFIG_BT_BUF_EVT_RX_SIZE and CONFIG_BT_BUF_ACL_RX_SIZE and can be far larger, so the copy runs past the end of the 64-byte slot into the adjacent slots and into whatever follows the statically allocated pool. The device runs the local Bluetooth controller in raw HCI mode (CONFIG_BT_HCI_RAW), so the oversized packets originate over the air. With the HCI buffer sizes recommended for full-featured controllers, an unauthenticated attacker within Bluetooth range can supply the overflowing bytes: a connected peer that negotiates Data Length Extension can send ACL fragments up to CONFIG_BT_CTLR_DATA_LENGTH_MAX bytes, and an attacker that merely broadcasts extended advertising data reaches the same path through LE Extended Advertising Report events, which the controller fragments only to CONFIG_BT_BUF_EVT_RX_SIZE. In the stock configuration the overflow is already reached without any radio traffic: the mandatory Read Supported Commands command-complete event is 70 bytes and overruns the 64-byte slot by six bytes on every host initialization. Because net_buf_add_mem() validates tailroom only through an assertion unless CONFIG_NET_BUF_HARDENING is enabled, builds with CONFIG_ASSERT=n — the usual production setting — silently corrupt memory adjacent to the USB buffer pool with attacker-chosen contents, which on a target without memory protection between subsystems can lead to arbitrary code execution. Builds with assertions enabled fail the assertion instead and panic, giving a remotely triggerable denial of service. The fix introduces a separate bt_hci_tx_pool sized to MAX(BT_BUF_ACL_RX_SIZE, BT_BUF_EVT_RX_SIZE) for the controller-to-host direction while leaving the host-to-device pool at the endpoint packet size, which is already bounds-checked during reassembly.2d

——0The RTIO streaming completion callback adxl345_process_fifo_samples_cb() in drivers/sensor/adi/adxl345/adxl345_stream.c clamps the amount of FIFO data it will report (read_len = MIN(fifo_bytes, buf_avail)) to the space actually returned by rtio_sqe_rx_buf(), but then queues one 6-byte bus read per hardware FIFO entry at consecutive offsets from read_buf, bounded by the device-reported entry count rather than by the clamp. When the allocated buffer is smaller than a full batch, the driver writes up to 186 bytes past the end of the allocation; a companion defect left data->fifo_total_bytes un-reset at batch start, so an aborted or errored chain could leave a stale write offset that pushes the next batch's writes out of bounds as well. A short buffer is an expected, first-class outcome of the RTIO allocator: rtio_block_pool_alloc() walks the requested size down one block at a time until a contiguous run is available, and the driver only demands sizeof(struct adxl345_fifo_data) + 6 bytes as its minimum. Any streaming configuration whose mempool block granularity is smaller than a full FIFO batch (204 bytes) — for example the sensor shell's RTIO_DEFINE_WITH_MEMPOOL(sensor_read_rtio, 8, 8, 32, 64, 4) used by sensor stream <dev> on fifo_wm incl, or the 16-byte-block streaming example in the documentation — takes this path whenever the pool is fragmented or the consuming thread falls behind. The out-of-bounds writes are performed by the I2C/SPI RTIO backend (DMA on many SoCs) into the shared RTIO block pool, corrupting neighbouring live buffers or, for a pool smaller than one batch, memory beyond the pool itself. The written bytes are accelerometer samples and the destination follows the allocation, so there is no controllable corruption primitive: the realistic impact is silent corruption of other RTIO consumers' data or a crash. Reaching it requires a board with an interrupt-wired ADXL345 built with CONFIG_ADXL345_STREAM, plus buffer-pool starvation, which a co-resident local workload can induce but which also occurs spontaneously under load; there is no network, USB or radio path to this code.2d

——11Snap7 through 1.4.3 contains an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the passive partner that allows a malicious active partner to overflow application buffers by declaring an unvalidated BSend total length. Attackers connecting from the configured peer address can declare up to 65535 bytes and send a short fragment, causing BRecv to memcpy past the buffer and crash or corrupt SCADA, HMI or gateway processes.3d

——1CFITSIO through 4.7.0 contains an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in ffgcls2() in getcols.c that trusts attacker-controlled heap descriptor lengths for variable-length string columns. Attackers can supply a crafted FITS file that overflows a fixed 28,800-byte stack buffer and the caller's string array, enabling arbitrary code execution.2d

——0Wasmtime before 24.0.12, 25.0.0 before 36.0.13, 37.0.0 before 46.0.2, and 47.0.0 before 47.0.3 contains a type confusion vulnerability because several Store APIs fail to validate that objects belong to the Store's Engine. Embedders mixing objects between Engines via Instance::new, StructRefPre::new, or Tag::new can trigger trampoline signature mismatches causing out-of-bounds stack writes, GC heap corruption, or panics.3d
