Technical description

Markdown Preview Enhanced is a Markdown preview extension for Visual Studio Code. Prior to 0.8.29, Markdown Preview Enhanced evaluates repository-controlled .crossnote/config.js and .crossnote/parser.js files with vm.runInNewContext, which does not provide a security boundary from the Node.js host realm. Opening a Markdown file in a malicious repository automatically loads these files, and prototype-chain traversal can reach the host Function constructor and process object, allowing operating-system commands to execute as the victim account without further interaction. Both configuration evaluation and parser-hook evaluation are affected, and the attack does not depend on module-scoped require being available. This issue is fixed in version 0.8.29.

Prior to 2.13.2, an authenticated administrator using the default H2 database and security mode can upload a crafted SQL file to POST /api/v1/database/import-database. DatabaseService.validateSqlContent() splits normalized input on semicolons and accepts a statement when it contains any allowed keyword, allowing dangerous H2 functions such as FILE_READ and CSVWRITE, plus CREATE ALIAS, to bypass the insufficient whitelist and execute side effects when RUNSCRIPT processes the file. This permits arbitrary file access. The demonstrated operating-system command execution chain writes attacker-controlled startup files to a user-site location and then triggers an application Python interpreter configured to load those startup files, resulting in command execution as the JVM service account. ——0Hestia Control Panel is a lightweight and powerful control panel for the modern web. From version 1.9.7 through 1.10.4, update_object_value() in func/main.sh does not escape single quotes when writing a custom document-root value to a user's web.conf file, allowing a low-privileged authenticated panel user with a web domain to inject an additional PATH field. When the user invokes the ordinary Search feature, the root-privileged v-search-user-object script loads the forged field through parse_object_kv_list_non_eval(), which permits reserved shell-variable names and globally replaces PATH before invoking column without an absolute path. By placing a malicious column executable in the injected search path, the user can execute arbitrary code as root.
