Summary description
F5 BIG-IP APM contains a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability when access policy and an OAuth profile are configured on a virtual server. This vulnerability could allow an unauthenticated attacker to perform remote code execution.
Required action
Apply mitigations in accordance with vendor instructions, ensuring compliance with CISA’s BOD 26-04 Prioritizing Security Updates Based on Risk (see URL in Notes) guidance and CISA’s “Forensics Triage Requirements” (see URL in Notes). Follow applicable BOD 26-04 guidance for cloud services or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable. Stakeholders are responsible for evaluating each asset's internet exposure and ensuring adherence to BOD 26-04 patching guidelines.
Notes
For temporary mitigation to allow for proactive forensic triage, apply the vendor-provided iRule. Once completed, install the final vendor patch as soon as possible. When a BIG-IP APM access policy and an OAuth profile is configured on a virtual server, specific malicious traffic can lead to Remote Code Execution (RCE). Impact: This vulnerability allows an unauthenticated attacker to perform remote code execution. The BIG-IP system in Appliance mode is also vulnerable. This is a data plane issue; there is no control plane exposure. Note: Software versions which have reached End of Technical Support (EoTS) are not evaluated.
