Descripción técnica

SimulationCraft is a tool to explore combat mechanics in World of Warcraft. In builds after release-820-01 and before the identified May 7, 2026 nightly, the `bcp_api.cpp` loop over the JSON `sockets` array uses `slot_data["sockets"].Size()` without bounding `gem_idx` by `MAX_GEM_SLOTS`, which is four in `engine/sc_enums.hpp`. The destination `gem_id` and `gem_bonus_id` arrays in `engine/item/item.hpp` have only four elements. More than four socket entries therefore write beyond `gem_id` into the adjacent `gem_bonus_id` vector storage; `bonus_list` entries can also access `gem_bonus_id` out of bounds. Corrupting a vector's `_M_start` pointer causes the `item_t` destructor to free an attacker-influenced pointer during normal cleanup. The advisory reports crashes and code execution demonstrated in a testing environment. Attack inputs can arrive through a malicious `.simc` profile with a `[[equipment]]` section, a compromised addon export, or `Battle.net API` responses modified by an attacker with a privileged network position. The fix is contained in the nightly build identified as simc-1205-01-516b5d7; no containing release tag is available.

———FreeImage (danoli3 fork) before 3.19.25 contains a heap buffer overflow vulnerability in PluginGIF.cpp that allows attackers to write past the canvas allocation via unclipped GIF frame rectangles. Attackers can craft a GIF whose frame left plus width exceeds the logical screen width, causing GifPlaybackCompositeFrame() and GifPlaybackFillRect() to corrupt heap memory when loaded with GIF_PLAYBACK.4h
CVE-2026-1187527.8 ALT

———FreeImage (danoli3 fork) before 3.19.22 contains a heap buffer overflow vulnerability in the PBM RLE decoder of PluginIFF.cpp that lacks bounds checks on ByteRun1 runs. Attackers can supply a crafted IFF/LBM PBM file with runs straddling scanline ends to write up to 127 controlled bytes past the heap-allocated bitmap.4h
CVE-2026-584586.5 MED
—
———Don't Starve Together (Steam AppID 322330) through build 747465 contains a memory-corruption vulnerability in the native persistent-string decoder that allows a remote attacker operating a public dedicated server to crash a victim's game client by publishing crafted world_gen_data with an invalid Klei persistent blob header length. Attackers can craft a malicious public lobby server listing that, once viewed or selected by the victim, triggers client-side decoding of the attacker-controlled data to corrupt native memory and cause a remote denial of service.8h

———ethernet_fill_header() in subsys/net/l2/ethernet/ethernet.c can prepend the Ethernet header in place, by pushing it into the headroom of the packet's first fragment, instead of allocating a separate header fragment. Before this fix the in-place path was selected purely from the build-time value of CONFIG_NET_L2_ETHERNET_RESERVE_HEADER, with no check that the packet actually has that headroom, and then called net_buf_push(pkt->buffer, hdr_len). Only Ethernet TX allocations reserve that space: net_pkt_alloc_buffer() invokes the L2 alloc hook (ethernet_l2_alloc()) only when is_pkt_tx() is true and the packet's interface is the Ethernet interface. A packet that was allocated by a different L2 and then handed to Ethernet for transmission therefore has too little (usually zero) headroom. Such packets are produced by ordinary routing and tunnelling paths: net_route_packet_if() re-targets a received packet to another interface when CONFIG_NET_IPV4_FORWARDING / CONFIG_NET_IPV6_FORWARDING are enabled (for example an 802.15.4/OpenThread or PPP interface forwarding to Wi-Fi/Ethernet), net_route_ipv6_mcast_forward_packet() forwards an RX-slab clone that carries no reserve, and the IPIP tunnel interface_send() prepends an outer IP header allocated on the virtual interface. In these configurations a remote or adjacent attacker triggers the condition simply by sending traffic that the device forwards. Because net_buf_simple_push() only asserts on the headroom bound, a build without CONFIG_ASSERT (and without the newer CONFIG_NET_BUF_HARDENING) moves the fragment data pointer below the start of its data block and writes 14 bytes — 18 with VLAN — of Ethernet header out of bounds. With the default fixed-size buffer pools this overwrites the tail of the neighbouring buffer's payload or memory preceding the pool array; with variable-size pools it overwrites the buffer reference count and the heap chunk header. The attacker controls neither the written bytes nor the offset, so the practical impact is memory corruption leading to a crash, packet corruption, or heap inconsistency rather than controlled code execution. The fix takes the in-place path only when net_buf_headroom(pkt->buffer) is large enough and otherwise falls back to a separate header fragment.9h
