Descrição técnica

Apache Kafka's code-generated protocol readers pre-size an array's collection from the element count declared by the sender. That count is checked only against the bytes remaining in the request buffer, which assumes about one byte per element; because most elements need several bytes, a request can declare far more elements than the buffer holds and still pass. For a keyed array the reader then allocates an ImplicitLinkedHashCollection of capacity (2 * count +1), so a request of a few tens of megabytes can force a heap allocation several times larger before any element is read. The pattern is emitted into every generated reader, so it affects all Kafka API types with an array field.  Impact: Request parsing happens before any authorization check. On a listener that does not require authentication (for example PLAINTEXT), an unauthenticated attacker can send a few concurrent requests that each declare a very large= array length and allocate many times their wire size in broker heap, crashing the broker with an OutOfMemoryError. The reporter demonstrated three concurrent ~90 MB ProduceRequest (v3) connections exhausting a 1 GB heap (~8x amplification). On listeners that require authentication, the attacker needs valid credentials but no specific ACL, since parsing precedes authorization.. Mitigation: Upgrade to Apache Kafka 4.2.2, 4.3.2, or 4.4.0. Until then, lowering socket.request.max.bytes and restricting network access to broker listeners reduces, but does not remove, exposure. Resolution: From Apache Kafka 4.2.2, 4.3.2, and 4.4.0: generated readers cap the initial array pre-allocation at MessageUtil.MAX_PREALLOCATED_ARRAY_CAPACITY (1000) and grow it on demand, and reject a declared array length above MessageUtil.MAX_ARRAY_LENGTH (1,000,000).

CVE-2026-1236167.5 ALT
—
———imgproxy from 3.3.0 before 4.0.16 contains an unbounded memory allocation vulnerability in the ICO loader that fails to validate the data_size field. Attackers can supply a crafted 23-byte ICO file declaring a ~4GB data_size to trigger memory exhaustion and worker crashes without authentication.9h
CVE-2026-1236103.7 BAI
—
———rustls before 0.23.46 contains an uncontrolled memory allocation flaw in its optional Brotli certificate decompression, which limits decompressed output size but accepts an input-selected large history window. Malicious peers can send a certificate with a five-byte Brotli header requesting up to 1 GiB before authentication, aborting Brotli-enabled clients or client-authenticating servers whose allocator cannot satisfy the request.9h
CVE-2026-1236067.5 ALT
—
———The hickory-dns recursor in hickory-recursor 0.25.0-alpha.3 through 0.25.2 and hickory-resolver 0.26.0-alpha.1 before 0.26.2 iterates every out-of-bailiwick NS target lacking glue in a referral without any per-query work budget. Remote attackers can serve such referrals to force A and AAAA lookups per target, amplifying traffic against remote servers or exhausting recursor resources.9h
CVE-2026-1235867.5 ALT
—
———Hickory DNS 0.25.0-alpha.3 through 0.25.2 contains a query amplification vulnerability in its recursive resolver, which mishandles cyclic sibling name server referrals that lack glue records. Attackers controlling two zones whose name servers reference each other without glue records can make the recursor loop, sending many upstream queries, amplified further by zero-TTL NS records.9h
CVE-2026-1235855.3 MÉD
—
———The hickory-resolver component of Hickory DNS 0.25.0 before 0.26.2 follows irrelevant CNAME records when resolving recursive queries, sending queries that are unnecessary to answer the original request. Attackers controlling DNS responses can include CNAME records in the authority or additional sections, or outside the original query name's CNAME chain, causing excess resolver queries and increased query amplification.9h
CVE-2026-1235777.5 ALT
—
———Hickory DNS from 0.24.0 before 0.26.2 contains a resource exhaustion vulnerability that allows remote attackers to consume server memory via unbounded DoH request bodies. Attackers can send large request bodies over HTTP/2 or HTTP/3 to a DNS over HTTP server, causing memory exhaustion and denial of service.9h
