Descrição resumida

Plex Media Server contains an external control of file name or path vulnerability which can allow an admin user to write arbitrary files that may be executed on load. This vulnerability can be chained with CVE-2026-96652, CVE-2026-96654, and CVE-2026-96655.

Ação necessária

Apply mitigations in accordance with vendor instructions, ensuring compliance with CISA’s BOD 26-04 Prioritizing Security Updates Based on Risk (see URL in Notes) guidance and CISA’s “Forensics Triage Requirements” (see URL in Notes). Follow applicable BOD 26-04 guidance for cloud services or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable. Stakeholders are responsible for evaluating each asset's internet exposure and ensuring adherence to BOD 26-04 patching guidelines.

Descrição técnica

Plex Media Server before 1.43.3.10861 allows an admin user to write arbitrary files that may be executed on load. The preference TranscoderH264Options is appended verbatim to x264's option string on every transcode. At startup, all .so files are run without signature, execute bit, or symbol checks.

——0MariaDB server is a community developed fork of MySQL server. From 10.11.1 until 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, and 13.0.2, ALTER TABLE ... CONVERT ... PARTITION does not apply filename encoding to user-specified partition names before using them in filesystem path construction. An authenticated database user can use a partition name requiring filename escaping to make the conversion operate on table files the user is not authorized to access, allowing unauthorized table reads or modifications. This issue is fixed in versions 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, and 13.0.2.8h

——0External Control of File Name or Path vulnerability in the ViewFile component of Label Manager in Apache OFBiz 24.09.07 on all platforms allows an authenticated user holding only the LABEL_MANAGER_VIEW permission to read arbitrary properties and xml files on the server, including the generated JWT signing key, enabling forgery of an authenticated administrator session, via the fileName parameter of a ViewFile request. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue.10h

——0Missing Authorization in XmlDsDump in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08 on all platforms allows a remote authenticated attacker holding only the webtools base permissions (OFBTOOLS_VIEW, WEBTOOLS_VIEW) — explicitly not the ENTITY_MAINT permission the export feature declares and visibly refuses to render for — to export the contents of any database entity, including UserLogin with its currentPassword hashes, to any filesystem path the OFBiz process can write, including a web-served docroot, and to create arbitrary directories or truncate arbitrary existing files at those paths, because the XmlDsDump screen action writes the requested entity data via new FileOutputStream on unvalidated outpath and filename request parameters before the screen's ENTITY_MAINT permission check runs, unlike the equivalent Java service entityExportAll, which enforces both a permission check and a file-path allow-list. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue.8h

——1Node Version Manager (nvm) is a POSIX-compliant shell function for managing multiple node.js versions. In versions 0.27.0 through 0.40.8, when a project's `.npmrc` sets `prefix`, `nvm use` tells the user to run `nvm use --delete-prefix`, which runs `npm config delete prefix` and `npm config delete globalconfig` in the current directory without naming a config file. npm loads the project `.npmrc` before deciding which file to edit, so that file chooses the target: `userconfig=~/.bashrc` makes npm rewrite `~/.bashrc` as ini (corrupting it), and `location=global` with `globalconfig=` leaves the chosen file at mode 0666, which on a shared machine lets another local user write to it. The attacker (the author of a cloned repository or archive, or a local user who can write a shared parent directory) chooses the file but not the bytes written, and no project code runs. Version 0.41.0 no longer lets a project `.npmrc` select which config file `--delete-prefix` edits.1d

——8SEPPmail Secure Email Gateway before 15.1.1 trusts a file path supplied in externally provided Large File Transfer attachment metadata. An unauthenticated remote sender can cause the mail-processing worker to disclose, move, or delete an accessible regular file when LFT is enabled and the message reaches an affected secure-mail processing path. The validated workers ran as root.1d

——25Quest Foglight for Databases FileServlet External Control of File Path Information Disclosure Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to disclose sensitive information on affected installations of Quest Foglight for Databases. Authentication is required to exploit this vulnerability. The specific flaw exists within the FileServlet class. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of a user-supplied path prior to using it in file operations. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to disclose information in the context of SYSTEM. Was ZDI-CAN-29216.1d
