Technical description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nexthop: initialize extack in nh_res_bucket_migrate() nh_res_bucket_migrate() passes an uninitialized netlink_ext_ack to call_nexthop_res_bucket_notifiers(). When nh_notifier_res_bucket_info_init() fails (e.g. the kzalloc returns -ENOMEM), the error is propagated back before any notifier sets extack._msg, and the error path formats the stale pointer with pr_err_ratelimited("%s\n", extack._msg). With CONFIG_INIT_STACK_NONE this dereferences uninitialized stack memory: Oops: general protection fault, probably for non-canonical address ... KASAN: maybe wild-memory-access in range [...] RIP: 0010:string (lib/vsprintf.c:730) vsnprintf (lib/vsprintf.c:2945) _printk (kernel/printk/printk.c:2504) nh_res_bucket_migrate (net/ipv4/nexthop.c:1816) nh_res_table_upkeep (net/ipv4/nexthop.c:1866) rtm_new_nexthop (net/ipv4/nexthop.c:3323) rtnetlink_rcv_msg (net/core/rtnetlink.c:7076) netlink_sendmsg (net/netlink/af_netlink.c:1900) Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception Zero-initialize extack so _msg is NULL on error paths that never set it.

——1`_gx_binres_pixelmap_table_load()` in the GUIX binary resource (theme) loader indexes the pixelmap table with a value read verbatim from the resource file and never bounds it against the table size. A crafted theme drives a write of up to roughly 256 KB past the end of the table. The overflowed buffer is allocated by GUIX itself, through `_gx_system_memory_allocator`, rather than supplied by the caller, so the loader corrupts its own arena. The public API `gx_binres_theme_load()` takes no size parameter, so no amount of caller diligence prevents this. Reproduces in the shipped default configuration; `GX_BINARY_RESOURCE_SUPPORT` is enabled by default.4d

——6Pillow is a Python imaging library. From 9.1.0 until 13.0.0, Pillow can disclose uninitialized stack memory when Image.quantize() uses an empty palette. ImagingPaletteCacheUpdate() leaves a local cache array uninitialized when the palette has zero entries, and the conversion path emits those bytes as output pixel indices. An attacker who controls the palette image can obtain stack contents from a returned PNG or GIF. This can disclose addresses and stack-canary data without an out-of-bounds access, memory corruption, or process crash. This issue is fixed in version 13.0.0.4d

——6Pillow is a Python imaging library. From 10.0.0 until 13.0.0, Pillow can free an invalid glyph pointer during FreeType rendering with an active stroker. If FT_Load_Glyph fails, cleanup may call FT_Done_Glyph on an uninitialized or stale glyph variable. An attacker can supply a malformed font as untrusted bytes to an application that draws text with a nonzero stroke width, forcing the glyph-load failure path. This can corrupt memory or crash the process. This issue is fixed in version 13.0.0.4d

——9libIEC61850 is an open-source implementation of IEC 61850 client and server protocols including MMS, GOOSE, Sampled Values, and R-Session. Prior to 1.6.2, checkDataSetAccess reverses the source and destination arguments to StringUtils_copyStringToBuffer while constructing an MMS_ASSOCIATION_SPECIFIC dataset reference. The helper treats uninitialized dataSetRef[130] storage as a source string, causing strlen to read beyond the stack buffer, and then copies those bytes into the caller-owned listName buffer. A remote defineNamedVariableList request can crash servers that have dynamic dataset service enabled and a dataset access handler installed; the advisory also observes caller stack corruption but establishes denial of service as the primary impact. This issue is fixed in version 1.6.2.8d
